Bad credit is damn expensive!
Many people want to buy a home. No mortgage banker will approve a mortgage with a middle credit score below 620-650. Mortgage bankers also will NOT approve a mortgage if there’s an unsatisfied judgment.
Others know more employers are checking credit before hiring. Whether or not you agree with this exploding practice is irrelevant. The reality is that employers are doing it, and it’s not illegal.
Other people are tired of overpaying for everything credit related, including:
- car insurance
- health insurance
- life insurance
- renter’s insurance
- Bad credit often rejects an application to rent (or demands a higher non-refundable security deposit)
- cell phones (many people with bad credit cannot even qualify for a cell phone plan)
- Apartment rental security deposits
- Credit cards (outrageous interest rates, if approved)
- Can’t rent a car without a credit card (in most cases).
- Can’t buy an airplane ticket without a credit card (in most cases).

I could go on, but that’s just rubbing salt in an already burning wound. In fact, CNN ran a piece yesterday about First Premier Bank charging its bad credit card holders a whopping 72.9% interest rate.
